Backyard Birds – Part 11

Making the marquetry sunflowers for the cabinet was a fun process and went surprisingly quickly.

For the petals, I took two contrasting colors of veneer and cut them in a tight zig-zag pattern. Then I cut each individual petal out of that combination of veneers.

The centers of the sunflowers are made from burl veneer. Before cutting into the burl veneer, I had to prepare it by putting a lot of tape and glue on it. Burl is very fragile and can shatter if it is not prepped adequately.
