Backyard Birds – Part 7

For the time being, I set aside the pieces of padauk for the cabinet and got started on my marquetry panel.

My first step was to make the background. I chose a variety of veneers that were lighter in color. I didn’t care too much about having a lot of contrast between the colors in the background. The contrast would come with the features in the foreground.

Photograph of the upper part of the background of the marquetry panel, with a cloudy sky at the top and four trees below.

The process of making the background went pretty quickly. I chose my veneers and finished the sky and trees one day, and I added the ground the next day.

Photograph of the same marquetry panel with the bottom third of the image, a patchy lawn, added.
